Did you know that biblical disciples and prophets regularly practiced trance States? The scripture says he who dwells in the secret place of the most high shall abide in the shadow of the Almighty. This is symbolic in the Old Testament as we see David running from his enemies and in hiding in the cave, our enemies symbolizing our cares and worries of this world and the Shadow of the Almighty being the secret place of prayer we enter into with God through hypnotic trance. This trance state of meditation is also known as the secret place many times the Jewish people would pull their prayer shawl over their heads and cover their faces to go into the prayer closet to commune with God. Jesus often would go on top of mountains or within them for a prolonged period of time to pray and seek God. This is very similar of what we see Yogis and Gurus doing in the east on top of and in mountains to fast and meditate.
The trance state is the place that we enter into through meditation
this is a place of mindfulness where we are able to experience the now moment. This is also the place that we go to to commune with God one on one The Bible is full of mysticism and spiritual encounters that it would be absurd overlook this sacred text because the Bible is filled with deep allegory and advanced spirituality. Jesus and his disciples what are some of the most spiritual people to walk the face of the planet. They had a strict discipline that catered to their spiritual walk. Some of their daily spiritual encounters include fasting, dream symbolism, communicating with angels, being raptured out of body to heaven, hearing the voice of God, divination, removing unclean spirits from people, Supernatural healings, bi-location, going in and out of trances and more. The Church of the West largely assumes that these were one-time experiences that Jesus, the prophets and disciple experienced but to fully understand this we must understand that Christianity started out as a spiritual practice in the east before it became a religion in the West. One must note that biblical Christianity looks nothing like western church or Catholicism for that matter. These were men given to devotion and had daily encounter with the supernatural. On the subject of the hypnotic trance states during worship services at most churches people are entering into hypnotic trances. Just imagine, people standing still with their hands in the air worshiping God with their eyes closed from anywhere of 30 to 45 minutes while music is being played. They are usually chanting and using mantras ie repeating a part of the song over and over "I Love you, I love You, I Love You" etc. and doing this while music is being played is one of the fastest ways to enter into hypnotic trance. In this hypnotic trance like state people often report feeling the presence of God, seeing angels, overcoming addictions and having their burdens lift so unlike other blogs and spiritual teachers we will not denounces or demonize these practices but rather applaud them and give a bit more Biblical examples for this practice.
Here are a few scriptures that talk about encounters with the trance state.
And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. And it came to pass, that, when I was come again to Jerusalem, even while I prayed in the temple, I was in a trance; And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy testimony concerning me. - Acts 22:16-18
Here we find Paul going into a deep trance during a large prayer gathering within the temple. This practice still occurs today with Christians in a large church setting, small group or even their personal devotional prayer time alone. We also see The Apostle Peter in Acts chapter 10 saying 4But Peter rehearsed the matter from the beginning, and expounded it by order unto them, saying, I was in the city of Joppa praying: and in a trance I saw a vision, A certain vessel descend, as it had been a great sheet, let down from heaven by four corners; and it came even to me.
This particular instance Peter saw a vision during a trance where God showed him what to do at a future time and actually showed it to him via dream symbolism that he would have to interpret in order to get the meaning. Also in Numbers 24:16
He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open
These are just a few scriptures that show the prophets and disciples going in and out of trances.
